As part of the Flying Start England programme this unit is designed to encourage you to be proactive about your career development According to Haylock (2003) successful career planning starts with self-assessment and then thinking of your career as a journey. The focus of this unit is to help you prepare for, plan and start your journey!

“Every practitioner should be enterprising and deliberate in pursuing a career….Deliberation and planning can determine whether you have an uninteresting or frustrating job or an exciting, gratifying career” (adapted from Haylock 2003)

Aim:

For newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals to have acquired the knowledge and skills to embark upon a structured career pathway.

Learning Outcomes :

At the end of this unit, and following a period of reflective practice, you will be able to:

  • Explore the possible short and longer term options for your career development
  • Understand the role of NHS KSF in assisting your career pathway.
  • Develop the skills to effectively manage your career.
  • Identify the available resources to assist your career pathway.
