Professional Development

This Unit as part of the Flying Start England programme is designed to encourage you to develop the skills and knowledge to be a lifelong learner.

“A crucial feature of competence and continuing professional development is a professional’s capacity to learn. Skills of independent learning are essential for lifelong learning and are integral to competent performance and the development of competence. These include a readiness to acknowledge ‘not knowing’ as a precondition of learning and commitment to do something about it” (Alsop 2001).

Aim:

To embed the skills of lifelong learning into the everyday practice of newly qualified practitioners, which in order to maximise their confidence and capability within NHS England.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this unit, and following a period of reflective practice, you will be able to:
  • Value and embed continuing professional development activities as a lifelong process to improve your knowledge and skills.
  • Assume responsibility for your Continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrate growing confidence in developing others
